GPMN Fifth Graders Become Journalists

At the beginning of third quarter, GPMN got its first cohort of scholar journalists. Each quarter, fourth and fifth grade scholars choose from a variety of nine-week electives taught by teachers and partner teachers.

Scholars could list their preferences for five electives. Journalism is a new elective that wasn't offered during the first semester of the schoolyear. The other electives currently offered are Japanese, broadcasting, upcycled projects, and creative writing.

The journalism elective is mentored by Ms. R, who studied journalism at Boise State University and gained experience in a variety of newsrooms. Ms. R is also the editor of The Wolf Pack Times.

Scholars in the journalism elective are considered reporters for The Wolf Pack Times. They spend the first several weeks learning about news and best journalistic practices. The remainder of the weeks is spent working on news stories.

Articles by the winter cohort are being published. Fourth quarter starts soon, which will bring in even more GPMN news for the community to enjoy.
